On Tuesday we went to use the raffle prize gift voucher I won at our first classic car show. It was for a bespoke jewellers (fancy). I didn't manage to redeem it this time, but had a lovely chat with the owner.
We popped into the charity shop which was next door. I said to Andy it looked like it could be a good one but as I walked around, I was a little disappointed, until I got to the jewellery cabinet. I found some vintage clip on earrings for £2.50! The lady who opened the cabinet pointed out the matching brooch which was the same price, so I snapped up both. Sparkly!
We moved on and went to another charity shop, but this one was one of those that had been 'made over'. It was littered with Boden items and we came out empty handed.
In the next charity shop, I saw a 1950's sewing box, but it was both expensive and in bad need of repair and tlc. But oh I hankered after it! Andy lured me away and I swear he was trying to distract me away from said box, as I emerged from the next charity shop, one scarf (orange tonic with red polka dots), one bunny brooch and one adorably pretty cardigan adorned with embroidered daisies and with a crochet collar, the richer.
Andy urged me to try on the cardi. It fit perfectly. As I was paying, I saw the brooch in the counter display cabinet, so he nudged me to get that. We then asked about dog bowls as we saw one by the door for customer pooches and were after one for car shows, so passing dogs could get a drink. She vanished out to the back, right next to where the scarves were and Andy was all, "Look, when are you ever going to find one like this again?" as he wafted it around in my face. See? Trying to distract me with pretty things!

And the scarf and cardi:
Wednesday I had to go to my asthma clinic appointment and wore such a very basic outfit of black circle skirt, black three quarter sleeve shirt, black elastic belt, black ballet flats, pink chiffon scarf, pink organdy petticoat, my new clip on earrings and a long string of vintage crystal beads worn wrapped multiple times around my neck. It was so effortlessly 1950's in style, I got stopped numerous times for people to heap compliments on me. A 90 year old lady asked me if I was a model, told me I looked glamorous and told me I had to tell my husband she said I should have been a model. She was so sweet ❤ I heard about what she did in the war and about the time she was meeting her cousin at the end of Oxford Street in London and a woman approached and told her to 'get off her patch'. "If you know what I mean," she added, leaning closer in a conspiratorial way!
What else? Oh yes, my hat elastic has yet to arrive. I think it may have been mis-delieverd to a woman who never, ever answers her door and is seen very rarely. Botherment. Of course, it may turn up yet, but Wednesday was the outside delivery estimate. If it doesn't appear, I shall just remove the elastic from another hat.
And that, I think, is that for this post.
You obtained some beautiful items there. I love the sparkly brooch!! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteAhaaa, I have that exact daisy cardie and I was thinking of getting rid of it (it not being cotton. If I'd have known you'd like it, I'd have sent it to you!!x
Excellent finds there. The brooch and earrings set is a real winner, and at such a great price.
ReplyDeleteI wish my local charity shops were full of Boden - it seems to be all New Look and M&Co round my way, which aren't really my thing.
That scarf is so very, very Melanie! I'm not surprised you got compliments, you do dress so nicely.
I love the cardi in particular
ReplyDeleteMelanie, beautiful sparkly brooch, cardie and scarf. It's so nice to walk out of a charity shop with treasures. You do look like a model, and really do the 50's as if born in that era. I think your lovely face is like a silent screen diva, however. Many thanks for a fab post.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds at the charity shop(s), especially on the jewellery front. I always check out their jewellery displays and have found quite a few of my favourite brooches that way. The cardi is adorable! Such a great story about that lady and how wonderful that she thought you were a model. That must have made your day! xxx
ReplyDeleteFab finds, I can see you living in that cardi and how exciting to have a matching brooch to the clips. xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute bunny brooch. And those compliments from the older lady are priceless.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely finds! AB rhinestone pieces always call to me as well.
