The Precious Things: Vintage Jewellery

I have had a horrible July: flu, wisdom tooth removal and then shingles for me and poorly bunnies left right and centre, but although the furbabies are now fine, I am still suffering. Phooey to that..

So, here's one I made earlier ...

I do love sparkly things, so thought I would share some of my collection.
Most of my jewellery was given to me by friends of my grandmother for me to play with, which makes them no doubt from the fifties (possibly early sixties). This was from when people used to give kiddies an unwanted jewellery box full of pretties as an addition to dressing up games. I wonder if this has ever happened to anyone else, or did I just  happen to know such people? I have two groups of pretties, one also from the sixties/seventies.

Others are charity shop finds and most others are from a little antique shop I frequent.
I have recently acquired a piece or three more (by accident) but have yet to photograph them.

Wing A Ding Ding

I crocheted a daffodil for St Davids Day. Except I didn't understand the pattern so did my usual trick of winging it.

What I Wore ...

Black beret - retail, customised by me
Red butterfly Scarf - charity shopped
Me made jacket
Daffodil brooch - me made
Austrian glass vintage brooch - gift
White jumper - nan me down
Belt - vintage
Skirt - Lindy Bop

Not bored of wearing my boots and hats at the time of photos
but now utterly fed up :)

I'm also fed up of the pesky chest infection which I have had since January. I now have accompanying fevers and was prescribed penicillin this week but had an absolutely terrible allergic reaction to it. I still don't feel very well. Hence why I am so behind on blog reading and have hauled this draft post into being.
Hope everyone's well xxx

Hey, Monkey Monkey!

Back in July ...

*cough*

... we went to Monkey World.

I wore a vintage dress, vintage hair scarf and a vintage crystal necklace.

We had oodles of fun.

Here are my pictures.

Lemurs, how I adore you.
Such wise faces.

I love Tamarins and this little Cotton Top was chirping at me from the little tunnel adjoining two areas for some time.

Let us pause to truly appreciate this picture.
Baby Robin!
Isn't the wee thing just the most precious little bundle of feathers!

Paint It Pink and Black

I had another go at those bloomers.

Still. Can't. Do. It.

So, it's all bagged up and ready for a trip to the town sewing shop. I feel a bit of a heel mind you, as I didn't buy the pattern, nor the fabric, or anything whatsoever in the shop I want advice from! I might peruse their trim which will perhaps soften the cheek of my request.

And on with the outfit post! Do you think the Pink Ladies would let me in?

Lady In Red

First ... magpie!
Sat on the sofa last Sunday afternoon, I spotted from where I sat, a magpie basking in the sun on the roof of a house opposite and a little way along. I was quick to jump up and get my camera as said magpie had not a clue I was about to take her photo. Usually they take flight when they guess what I am up to, but not this time and I got some lovely shots.

Second ... necklace!
I saw this necklace was due to be taken along to a vintage fair on the blog of lovely Vix, so as I wasn't for once late to the party, I swooped and asked how much and was thrilled to find it was easily within my grasp, so happily purchased it. It's ridiculously beautiful and came beautifully wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a beautiful ribbon which I shall indeed be wearing at some point.
I also poached the photo from Vix's blog as I haven't managed to photograph me wearing it yet.

Third ... glitter!
I'm running a little behind on these outfit posts, things have got in the way.
Naughty, naughty things.

Black vintage hair scarf, gift from Vix
Diamante hair clip, gift
Faux vintage pearls, inherited
Black ballet flats, retail

Red glitter bolero and Cowl neck top, retail
I have had the bolero for years and years and have a black one too. I am peeved that it rode up in this picture and I didn't realise till after.
The top underneath I call my Paul Jones top as I got it when I was going to see him play live and wore it that night.

Skulls and roses skirt, made by me
Red organdy petticoat, ebay

What I Have Been Doing
I am in the process of sewing some nightwear. I say sewing, what I actually mean is I have cut the pattern, pinned it to the fabric, cut the pieces and then stared at the instructions with utter bewilderment. I just cannot understand what they're telling me to do, it's so frustrating :(
I kept telling myself that other people have managed to sew it so there's no reason why I couldn't do so too. Except I bet they don't have troubles reading pattern instructions like I do. I feel there is some sort of short circuit in my brain which makes following any written instruction like that of a pattern difficult. Phooey.
